Scott Smith
Chairman of the Board and CEO of La Plata Communities

Mr. Smith joined the original Briargate development team in 1982 after a stint with Arthur Andersen & Company.  He served as Controller and later as Chief Financial Officer for Briargate.  He started up a financial advisory company in 1991 and directed the La Plata acquisition of the Briargate real estate assets in 1995.  He was the CEO of La Plata Investments from 1997 to 2007.

Scott has served twice on the Board of Directors of the Colorado Springs Economic Development Corporation.  He is also a full member of the Urban Land Institute, participating in the Community Development Council.  He served as the 1995 President of the Colorado Association of Home Builders, and the 1992 President of the Housing and Building Association of Colorado Springs.  He currently chairs the HBA Public Policy Council and is an active board member.  Scott has served as a director to the National Association of Home Builders for the past 10 years and was elected as a Life Director in 1996. 

Scott is the current president of the Pikes Peak Range Riders Foundation, was the President of the Pikes Peak Range Riders in 1992, and has been the coach/drillmaster for the Pikes Peak Rangerettes.

Mr. Smith is a CPA, and a graduate of the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado, Boulder.  He is married and has two teenagers.  He has been an active coach for youth sports, loves to hunt and fly fish and is a horseman.
