Bruce D. Benson
President, University of Colorado

Bruce D. Benson is the 22nd president of the University of Colorado and a CU-Boulder alumnus. As leader of the state’s first university, he is responsible for administration of campuses in Aurora, Boulder, Denver and Colorado Springs, which have a combined 55,000 students and 24,000 employees.

Before becoming CU president, he was a successful businessman who founded the Benson Mineral Group, an oil-and-gas exploration and production company. In addition, he has been active in a broad spectrum of educational, civic and political initiatives at the state and national levels. His reputation as a strong advocate of higher education and a generous supporter of his alma mater is well known. His commitment to Colorado garnered him the 1994 nomination as the Republican candidate for the governor’s office.

President Benson is married to Marcy Head Benson. He has three children and eight grandchildren.
